President Bola Tinubu has sent a Constitution Alteration Bill to the Senate, proposing the creation of state police across Nigeria
Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed this during Tuesday’s plenary, noting that lawmakers are expected to begin consideration of the bill on Wednesday.

He also stated that state governments are set to review the proposed legislation on the same day they receive it.
The bill seeks to amend key sections of the 1999 Constitution to provide a legal framework for the establishment of state police in the country.
The proposal aligns with Tinubu’s repeated calls for constitutional reforms aimed at strengthening internal security and allowing states to take a more active role in policing their territories.
