Nigerian sprint star Tobi Amusan has secured Nigeria’s first gold medal at the Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, on Wednesday
The world record holder dominated the women’s 100m hurdles on Day 2 of the competition, finishing ahead of her rivals to extend her impressive medal record on the continental stage.

Her compatriot Adaobi Tabugbo also impressed, clinching bronze in the same event and contributing to Nigeria’s strong overall showing since the start of the championships.
The victory marks Amusan’s third African Championships gold medal, which was presented to her by World Athletics President Sebastian Coe.
Speaking with journalists earlier at the event, Amusan encouraged young athletes to stay confident and not allow fear or doubt to limit their ambitions.
“Don’t let anyone talk fear into your dreams. I remember when I started hurdling, I heard a lot of ‘nobody is going to do well as a hurdler from Africa.’ And guess who is the world record holder: me,” she said.
