Tragedy occurred on Tuesday, at the Oredo Primary Health Centre, in Benin City, Edo State, when a yet-to-be-identified man fell into a dilapidated skeptic tank at the premises of the health facility and died.
It was gathered that the middle-aged man was awaiting registration for the ongoing free medical outreach organized by Edo State Government, in conjunction with the Association of Nigerian Physicians in United States.
He allegedly left the queue to urinate when he unknowingly stepped on the skeptic tank hidden under thick grass, and it caved in and he got downed in it.
It was further learnt that the victim was later brought out dead from the skeptic tank about four hours later with the aid of an excavator brought to the premises by emergency response team.
The incident temporarily caused panic among the health workers and patients waiting to be registered.
The tragedy led to a temporary suspension of registration for free medical care on Wednesday morning.
Officials of the State Ministry for Health could not be reached for comment.
Also, Edo State Police Command spokesman, SP Kotongs Bello, could not be reached for confirmation.
