Shona Thompson, 41, suffered serious internal injuries after she flew to Turkey for gender reassignment surgery after a 30-year wait to switch genders, avoiding the lengthy NHS waiting list.
The £8,000 operation in Izmir was successful, but complications arose during her journey back home to Blackpool.
Despite booking wheelchair assistance, Shona had to walk long distances through airports while carrying her suitcase, causing internal injuries.
Upon arrival, she was admitted to a local hospital where she endured misgendering and complications from treatment, including allergic reactions and seizures.
Shona’s Turkish surgeon recommended corrective surgery, which she couldn’t afford until her TikTok followers raised funds for her return flight to Izmir.
After successful corrective surgery and recovery, Shona is now looking forward to her new life as a woman, supported by her wife and children.
Her journey of self-realization began at age 11, and despite the challenges, she’s grateful to finally live authentically.
