The Trump administration has revoked more than 6,000 student visas in 2025 as part of an aggressive immigration crackdown targeting visa overstays, criminal behavior, and alleged support for terrorism, according to Fox News Digital
State Department officials reported that about 4,000 of these visas were pulled after students were arrested or charged with crimes such as assault, DUI, and burglary.

Another 200 to 300 revocations were linked to terrorism allegations, including cases where students were accused of raising funds for Hamas.
The policy also extends to students connected to political demonstrations, particularly pro-Palestinian protests. In May, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers that the administration is reviewing the visa status of students involved in such protests and “will continue to revoke the visas of people who are here as guests and are disrupting our higher education facilities.”
Overall, roughly 40,000 visas have been revoked in 2025 — a sharp increase compared with the 16,000 revoked during the same period of the Biden administration.
The enforcement campaign follows several executive orders signed by President Donald Trump in January, directing federal agencies to intensify screening of foreign nationals, combat terrorism and antisemitism, and remove anyone deemed a threat to national security.
Critics say the policy undermines civil liberties and unfairly targets foreign students. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) argued during a Senate hearing that revoking visas without due process amounts to “a fundamental attack on freedom.”
Under the new directives, federal agencies are required to “vet and screen to the maximum degree possible all aliens” entering or residing in the US and to use “all available legal tools” to prosecute or deport those engaged in antisemitic harassment or violence.
Student visas allow foreigners to study temporarily at US institutions but, unlike green cards, do not provide permanent residency.
