Donald Trump has drawn criticism for nominating 44-year-old Fox News host Pete Hegseth, who has no prior government experience, to be his Secretary of Defense—a role that oversees the world’s largest military and an $800 billion budget.

Hegseth, known as an outspoken “anti-woke” personality, faced immediate backlash from Washington insiders, with one veterans’ advocate calling him “undoubtedly the least qualified nominee for Defense Secretary in history.

While some Republican lawmakers offered a mild response, others highlighted Hegseth’s combat experience as a captain in the Army National Guard, where he served in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned two Bronze Stars.

Hegseth has been a co-host on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend‘ since joining Fox News as a contributor in 2014, following an unsuccessful Senate bid in Minnesota.

He reportedly became friends with Trump through the president-elect’s frequent appearances on the show.

Trump expressed confidence in Hegseth, stating, “With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies are on notice—Our Military will be Great Again, and America will Never Back Down. Nobody fights harder for the Troops, and Pete will be a courageous and patriotic champion of our ‘Peace through Strength’ policy.”
