President Donald Trump has reacted strongly after several artists withdrew from scheduled performances at the “Freedom 250” Great American State Fair, an event tied to upcoming celebrations for America’s 250th anniversary.
In a post on Truth Social, Triumph criticized the performers involved, saying they were “overpriced singers, who nobody wants to hear, whose music is boring, and yet who do nothing but complain.”
The concert series, set to help launch festivities at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on June 24, has seen a number of scheduled acts step away.
Among those who no longer plan to perform are The Commodores, Martina McBride, Morris Day and the Time, Bret Michaels, and Young MC. The artists reportedly said they were not fully aligned with how the event’s nonpartisan framing was presented.
Despite the withdrawals, some performers including Flo Rida, Vanilla Ice, and Freedom Williams are still expected to appear if the event goes ahead.
Trump also addressed the Kennedy Center following a federal judge’s ruling that blocked renovation plans and ordered his name removed from the venue.
He criticized the decision in strong terms, continuing his objections to the court’s ruling and the direction of the project.
