The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects linked to the attack on Fuji legend Abass Akande Obesere in Okitipupa
The musician had earlier demanded that the state government take swift action against those who assaulted him and destroyed his equipment during a burial ceremony where he was hired to perform.

The chaos reportedly began when suspected thugs stormed the venue, harassing Obesere in an attempt to extort him. A struggle broke out between the attackers and his band members, during which the money he had earned at the event was allegedly stolen. Some members of his team were also injured as the thugs vandalized equipment and disrupted the event.
Police spokesman Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the incident, stating that two suspects had been taken into custody along with exhibits recovered from them. He said investigations were already underway.
Okitipupa LGA chairman Andrew Ogunsakin condemned the attack, describing it as unacceptable and unworthy of the community. He said he would personally reach out to Obesere to express regret and assured that steps would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Obesere’s media manager, Ayonla Authentic, offered a detailed account of the ordeal, stating that the team was surrounded by touts shortly after the musician’s performance. He explained that he was carrying the money earned at the event, which made him a target.
According to him, the attackers demanded the bag and violently assaulted him when he refused. He sustained multiple blows, a dislocated shoulder, and injuries from a knife strike during the struggle.
He said the attackers eventually fled with the bag of money, while another group continued rough-handling Obesere despite his attempts to calm them by offering money. The team later managed to escape to seek safety and medical help.
The statement condemned the attack as criminal and unacceptable, calling on authorities to ensure those responsible are identified, prosecuted, and prevented from disrupting future public events.
