According to information shared with travel agents on Tuesday, UAE authorities have now banned all transit visa applications for Nigerians and rolled out new, more restrictive criteria for obtaining tourist visas.

One of the major changes affects Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 45, who are now ineligible to apply for tourist visas unless they are accompanied. Even for travelers above 45, the rules have become significantly tougher.

Applicants in this older age bracket are now required to submit a personal Nigerian bank statement covering the last six months, with each month showing a minimum closing balance of $10,000 (or the naira equivalent). This requirement is in addition to standard documents like hotel reservations and passport data pages.

This policy shift comes less than a year after Nigeria and the UAE resolved a diplomatic dispute that had led to a visa ban on Nigerians for nearly two years. Although the ban was lifted in 2023, it came with already restrictive terms that slowed travel significantly.

With these new conditions, travel agents say the situation is worsening, dampening hopes for many Nigerians who once saw Dubai as a preferred destination for tourism, business, and healthcare.
