Former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has addressed the public regarding her recent visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged misappropriation of funds during her tenure

Kennedy-Ohanenye voluntarily visited the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, March 6, 2025, arriving at 2:15 PM. She began discussions with investigators at 2:50 PM and concluded by 6:50 PM.
The EFCC is probing allegations that ₦138,413,253.89 from the 2023 budget of the Ministry of Women Affairs was misappropriated. Reports claim that these funds, meant for projects such as the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative, were allegedly diverted for personal use.
In her response, Kennedy-Ohanenye denied any wrongdoing and insisted that she managed public funds with integrity. “During my tenure as the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, my team and I executed our duties diligently and transparently,” she said.
She explained that the Ministry worked within the available financial resources, ensuring that all funds were properly utilized. “We judiciously utilized all funds available and, in many cases, supplemented with our personal resources to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the Nigerian women and children,” she stated.
Kennedy-Ohanenye also commended the EFCC for their professionalism during her visit and assured the public of her full cooperation. “I sincerely appreciate the warm reception and professionalism exhibited by the operatives during our engagement. I will continue to offer my full cooperation with the agency to ensure a smooth and successful process,” she said.
Despite her explanations, the EFCC has yet to issue an official statement on the outcome of the investigation. It remains unclear whether Kennedy-Ohanenye has been cleared of the allegations, and Nigerians await further updates from the anti-graft agency.
