Britain has been hit with over 100 flood alerts as the heavy snowfall from Storm Goretti melts and a weekend of rain is forecast
Storm Goretti has brought the “worst snowfall in a decade” to the UK with 64,000 homes left without power, airports forced to shut and train services cancelled.
The storm, which made landfall yesterday afternoon, has left the country plastered in yellow and amber weather warnings for snow, wind, rain and ice as 100mph gales batter the coast.
Now 106 flood alerts and 12 flood warnings have been issued up and down the country as Storm Goretti clears to the east.
David Morgan, Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) Flood Duty Manager, said: “As temperatures rise following recent cold conditions, thaw of lying snow from Sunday onwards will increase the risk of flooding.
“Possible impacts could include flooding of low lying land, roads and individual properties.
