New British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has featured Nigerian-born TikTok creator Bemi Orojuogun, popularly known as “Bus Aunty,” to help unveil a new transport initiative aimed at making bus travel more affordable across England
The announcement, made on Wednesday, July 22, revealed that the government will introduce a £2 maximum fare for single bus journeys starting January 1, 2027.
The reduced fare will remain in place until the end of that year.

To promote the policy, Burnham released a video inspired by Bus Aunty’s popular social media content.
Standing in front of a passing bus and holding up his phone, the Prime Minister explained that cutting bus fares had once been considered unrealistic.
“For too long, people said it is not possible to reduce bus fares. Well, we showed everybody in Greater Manchester that it is possible. And today, I am taking the £2 fare cap national,” he said.
He then welcomed Orojuogun into the video, calling her the perfect person to back the campaign.
Playing along, the TikTok star laughed and told him, “Oh, Prime Minister, you’re stealing my job!”
Burnham replied by saying the new policy had been “endorsed by Bus Aunty herself,” prompting Orojuogun to applaud the move.
“It’s a fantastic idea. Thank you so much, Prime Minister,” she said.
The £2 fare cap will apply to bus routes across England outside London, where a separate ticketing system operates. It replaces the current £3 cap, which is due to remain in place until the new policy begins in January 2027.
