Residents in Bristol, UK have now turned to living in vans as they struggle with the cost of living crisis. Vans are now home to over 800 people.
The city has seen a surge in van dwellers, including families, engineers, and students.
Many van dwellers prefer this lifestyle, citing freedom and lower living costs.
The number of van dwellers has quadrupled since 2020, according to Bristol City Council. Bristol has become the most expensive place to rent in the UK outside of London.
Some residents near popular areas like Clifton Downs have complained about issues like blocked pavements and littering.
Others, however, recognize the need for alternative housing solutions and want to find a balance.
Attempts to remove van dwellers have been met with resistance, as long as vehicles are taxed and roadworthy. Despite challenges, van dwellers see this lifestyle as a choice for independence and affordability.
