UNIBEN student shot in his GLK at campus gate

A student of the University of Benin has been s.hot d.ead. He was gvnned down on Sunday evening at the institution’s main gate in Ugbowo, Edo State

The victim, who was driving out in a GLK Mercedes Benz, was reportedly ambushed by masked gvnmen who blocked his vehicle before opening fire at close range.

Eyewitnesses said the incident happened shortly after the student had completed his examinations at the Political Science Department. The sudden attack caused panic around the busy campus entrance.

Two other occupants of the vehicle, who survived the shooting, were rushed to the University of Benin Health Centre for treatment.

One witness recounted that the attackers trapped the car before unleashing heavy gvnfire, leaving the victim with no chance of survival, while others inside the vehicle sustained injuries.

Police operatives from the Ugbowo Divisional Headquarters arrived the scene and evacuated the body of the deceased. The Divisional Police Officer, SP Emmanuel, said details of the incident were still unclear and an official statement had yet to be released.
