Unijos SUG protests as hoodlums kill another student

Students Union Government (SUG), University of Jos chapter has raised the alarm over the killing of another student of the institution on Thursday..

THISDAY gathered that the victim, a 100-level student of the University was pulled out of a tricycle and stabbed to death at Bauchi road axis of Jos.

The student had reportedly boarded the tricycle from the Permanent site of the university to the main campus, and on the way he was pulled out and stabbed to death.

He said, “At the risk of being misunderstood, we dare to state that just within few hours of the unfortunate incident at Rukuba road, the security agencies combed the entire area and arrested more than 20 suspects as contained in the press statement issued by the Nigerian Police Force.

“This means the security agencies can be effective if they want. But unfortunately, the innocent students of the University of Jos do not deserve such prompt attention and energy.”

“If we really have a government that can respond swiftly to the Rukuba road incident, one would wonder what is happening to the helpless students of the University of Jos. This is no doubt an affirmation of the careless attitude of government to the plight of the Nigerian students.

According to the students, the Federal and State governments should provide safe means of transportation for the students as a matter of urgent priority. The also argued that University authority should establish a market or multipurpose store where basic food stuff can be sold on campus.

“This will prevent us from unnecessary trips to the markets in the neighbouring communities where our lives are jeopardized.

“As a matter of urgency, the state government should appeal to the federal government to facilitate building of perimeter fencing around our institution. There should be more accommodation (hostels) for our students as it will go a long way in reducing the number of students that stay off campus.
