A university student stopped a bus from killing 56 students after one of its tyres blew out in Mississippi leaving 11 people hurt, including 10 University of South Carolina students and the driver.
The group was on their way to a party in New Orleans when the accident happened.
The bus, carrying 56 students, crashed on Interstate 10 in Hancock County after one of its tires blew out. Nine students were rushed to the hospital by ambulance, while the driver and another student were airlifted in serious condition.
The situation could have been much worse if not for the quick thinking of one brave student. When the driver was thrown from the bus, this student took control of the wheel, steering the bus to safety and preventing further tragedy.
Authorities are investigating the crash, but for now, the focus is on caring for the injured students and offering support to all those affected by the incident.
The University of South Carolina is working closely with local authorities to gather updates on the students and provide assistance where needed. Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this frightening ordeal.
