The Ogun State Police Command has detained trending TikToker, Mirabel over allegations that she may have fabricated a se.xual assault claim that sparked widespread reactions online.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed on Friday that Mirabel is currently in police custody as investigations continue into the authenticity of her report.
“She is with us now, and the investigation is ongoing,” Babaseyi said.
Addressing concerns about whether she could face charges for filing a false report, the police spokesperson stressed that any decision would depend strictly on the outcome of the probe.
“The facts will tell at the conclusion of our investigation so we can reach a logical conclusion on whether those allegations were true or not,” he added.
The controversy began on February 15 when Mirabel, identified on TikTok as @mirab351, shared emotional videos alleging that an unknown man broke into her apartment and se.xually assaulted her. She further claimed that the suspect bragged about having influential family connections that would shield him from justice.
However, days later, during a conversation with social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, she disclosed that she had been under the influence of drugs at the time of the alleged incident and may have experienced hallucinations — a revelation that has since raised serious questions about her initial claims.
