Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has urged the Federal Government to immediately suspend all forms of military cooperation with the United States following reports of US airstrikes
In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday, Gumi warned that American involvement in Nigeria’s security operations could worsen the country’s challenges and threaten its sovereignty.
He argued that while Islam allows the fight against terrorism, such efforts must be carried out by actors with “clean hands,” insisting the United States lacks the moral standing to lead such a campaign due to its global military history.
According to the cleric, Nigeria erred by opening its counterterrorism space to foreign powers, stressing that external interventions often come with hidden political interests and lead to civilian casualties rather than genuine solutions.
“This is the mistake Nigeria has made. Terrorists don’t fight terrorists in truth; they may only kill innocent people and have ulterior motives behind the drama of fighting ‘terror’.”
Gumi cautioned that turning Nigeria into a battlefield would draw anti-US forces into the country, further destabilising an already fragile security situation. He also warned that US involvement, especially when framed as protecting Christians, could deepen religious divisions.
“As a principle, no nation should allow its land to be a theater of war. And no nation should allow its neighbors to be their enemies.”
He further maintained that airstrikes alone cannot defeat terrorism, arguing that effective counterterrorism depends on strong and coordinated ground operations, which Nigeria is capable of executing with its existing manpower if properly organised.
“If Nigeria wants military assistance, China, Turkey, and Pakistan can do the job effectively.”

Why though? Is it because you fear your footsoldiers are going to be eliminated in their droves?
This is coming from a man who is a known terrorist sympathizer, and sponsor. This Gumi of a person should be arrested and tried for aiding terrorism in Nigeria. Aiding of terrorism is a criminal offense, and should be punished in any sane country.
