A US court has reaffirmed its ruling ordering former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. to pay Nigerian company Zinni Media Concept Limited $2.4 million in damages for breaching a 2017 contract

According to Alex Nwankwo, Zinni Media’s media executive, Mayweather was contracted to make appearances in Africa, including Nigeria, but terminated the deal without cause and refused to refund the advance payment.
After unsuccessful recovery attempts, Zinni Media sued Mayweather in 2018 for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and fraud. A California court initially ruled in Zinni Media’s favor in October 2023, awarding:
– $1.6 million in damages
– $721,881 in prejudgment interest
– $16,270 in attorney fees
– $285 in other costs
Mayweather’s appeal was denied by the California Court of Appeals on August 27, 2024. Despite the final ruling, Mayweather has yet to pay the damages.
The court has authorized US attorneys to enforce the judgment by targeting Mayweather’s assets, including luxury vehicles, to recover the owed amount.
Mayweather faces additional penalties as the unpaid judgment accrues 10% interest annually.
