Afrobeat singer and activist Seun Kuti has once again called out the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the agency of prioritizing the arrest of internet fraudsters—popularly known as Yahoo boys—over corrupt politicians

In a fiery Instagram Live session, Kuti alleged that the EFCC is more committed to targeting Yahoo boys because of funding and pressure from the American government.
He said, “They set up that lie that EFCC is here to arrest Yahoo boys. Finish. American government pays them for that, and they have to show results. American government no be Nigerian government wey you go give money and not show working—you must show the working. So they constantly have to show how they’re arresting Yahoo boys.”
Kuti went on to say that, in the eyes of the EFCC, internet fraudsters seem to matter more than corrupt politicians.
“You can never stop seeing Yahoo boys because to them, you’re more important than any politician. Take it from me. Let the EFCC chairman invite me to the office, let’s sit face to face and let him tell me I’m lying—that Nigerian Yahoo boys are not more important to him than politicians. Catching Yahoo boys is his job more than chasing politicians,” he said.
He also criticized the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), which he believes should focus exclusively on politicians.
“ICPC is supposed to go after politicians. What are they doing? Nothing!” Kuti exclaimed.
This isn’t the first time Seun Kuti has spoken out on the matter. In previous interviews, he described Yahoo boys as the “legitimate children” of Nigeria’s political and business elite, arguing that internet fraud is a symptom of the larger corruption entrenched in the country’s leadership.
