The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has insisted that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains its candidate for Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 elections, despite a court judgment recognising former governor Rochas Okorocha
The party maintained its position on Thursday in a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya Jones.
According to the APC, Uzodimma won the party’s senatorial primary with overwhelming support from its members, and its position on his candidacy remains unchanged.
“The Party wishes to state without any confusion that His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, remains the candidate of our Party for Imo West Senatorial District,” the statement read.
The declaration followed Thursday’s Federal High Court judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Okorocha as the APC candidate for Imo West.
The court also ordered Uzodimma to stop presenting himself as the party’s candidate for the January 16, 2027 election.
Reacting, the Imo APC said its legal department would examine the judgment and determine the party’s next course of action.
“The Party’s legal department shall study the outcome of a legal intervention in this matter and act accordingly,” it stated.
The party urged members and supporters to remain focused on preparations for the forthcoming elections.
It has not announced whether it will appeal the judgment.
