Federal High Court proceedings in Abuja took a dramatic turn on Thursday, May 14, 2026, after the bail application filed for detained blogger Justice Mark Chidiebere, widely known as Justice Crack, was suddenly withdrawn during hearing.
The unexpected decision came from Barrister Marshal Abubakar, a development that means the blogger will remain in DSS custody until further court proceedings continue.
Reacting to the courtroom incident in a video shared online, social critic and activist VeryDarkMan expressed disappointment over how events unfolded, revealing that Barrister Marshal had made major sacrifices ahead of the hearing.
“He just left Turkey yesterday just because of this case. He has been talking about it for days,” VDM said.
The activist added that he attempted to reach the lawyer shortly after the court session but was unable to contact him.
Clearly frustrated by the situation, VDM accused those involved in the courtroom proceedings of allowing personal interests and rivalry interfere with the main objective of securing Justice Crack’s freedom.
“All I can see here is pride, ego, and malice from everybody that was in that court. All of them just went there to make a mess of themselves,” he stated.
Sources familiar with the proceedings disclosed that disagreements reportedly broke out within the defence team over who should handle the matter in court. The confusion allegedly contributed to the withdrawal of earlier applications filed on behalf of the detained blogger.
Following the tense session, the matter was adjourned to May 18 as supporters of Justice Crack continue to await the next phase of the case.
The courtroom drama has since triggered heated reactions across social media, with many Nigerians debating the actions of the legal team and the continued detention of the blogger.
