Real Madrid have secured the long-term future of Brazilian star Vinicius Jr after the winger signed a new six-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2032
The 26-year-old had been entering the final year of his previous deal, attracting interest from Arsenal, but the Spanish giants confirmed on Thursday that he had committed his future to the club.
Reacting to the announcement, Vinicius celebrated the new agreement on Instagram, writing: “Eight years at the Bernabeu are too short… Six more years, and then forever.”
In a statement, Real Madrid described the Brazilian as one of the key figures behind one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.
Negotiations had reportedly stalled for months before Madrid tabled an improved offer on Wednesday, which convinced the forward to sign the extension.
Vinicius joined Los Blancos from Flamengo in 2018 and had already renewed his contract once before, three years ago. Talks over another extension had been ongoing for the past 18 months before both parties finally reached an agreement.
He returned to Madrid earlier this week after representing Brazil at the World Cup and resumed pre-season training on Monday.
Since arriving in Spain, Vinicius has scored 128 goals in 375 appearances for Real Madrid, while also registering 13 goals in 54 matches for Brazil.
During his time at the club, he has won two UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns and one Copa del Rey.
Reports suggest Arsenal were prepared to intensify their pursuit if contract talks had collapsed, but the new agreement ends any hope of signing the Brazilian as the Premier League champions continue their search for a left winger.
The contract extension was announced on the same day Real Madrid confirmed the signing of Ivorian winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to €140 million.
