Quadri Alabi, the teenager who gained national attention during the 2023 election campaign, has opened up about the traumatic experience he faced while being held at Kirikiri Prison

Alabi, who was arrested and jailed on allegations of robbery, recently spoke in an interview with Channels Television, detailing how envy and threats followed his rise to public recognition.
“When the campaign happened in 2023, some people were telling my mum that the money Peter Obi gave me should be shared with them. They threatened to kidnap me if we didn’t share it,” he recalled.
His mother stood her ground, refusing their demands. “She told them it can’t be possible, that if I had been shot while standing in front of the car, would they still be asking for a share if I had died?”
According to Quadri, it was this defiance that led some area boys to falsely accuse him.
“I had just come back from work. I was a motor boy delivering fish to Port Harcourt. As I got to our street, I didn’t know a fight had broken out earlier. ‘Area boys’ grabbed me and told the police, ‘See the boy.’ That’s how I was arrested,” he said.
He was accused of destroying property and stealing phones—claims he insists are completely false. “They locked me up with four elderly men I didn’t know,” he said.
While in custody, the teenager said he endured inhumane treatment and was forced to clean faeces daily as punishment for not being able to pay off the wardens.
“Because I had no money to give to the wardens, they made me clean faeces every day. I was in hell,” he said.
Alabi’s story has sparked fresh conversations about wrongful arrests, abuse in detention facilities, and the dangers faced by vulnerable youths in underserved communities.
