The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has responded to public concerns after students in several Nigerian states were forced to write their English Language WASSCE paper late into the night on Wednesday

According to reports, candidates in Oyo, Ogun, Benue, Osun, and other states sat for the exam in near darkness due to the delayed arrival of exam materials.
In a statement released by WAEC spokesperson Moyosola Adeshina, the council explained that the delay stemmed from deliberate security and logistical measures designed to prevent exam material leaks and to protect the integrity of the examination process.
“While we acknowledge the difficulties experienced, these steps were necessary to ensure the credibility of the exam,” the statement read. “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this caused students, parents, and schools.”
WAEC also reassured the public of its commitment to high standards in exam conduct and thanked all stakeholders for their patience and understanding.
