Nigeria nearly took the lead early in the game, with Chiwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo testing South Africa’s goalkeeper Andile Dlamini in the 11th and 12th minutes. Both efforts were denied by impressive saves.

Despite South Africa’s fluid midfield play, they rarely threatened Nigerian shot-stopper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

The breakthrough came just before halftime when Nigeria were awarded a penalty after Bomgeka Gamede handled the ball in the box. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade converted the spot kick, giving Nigeria a 1–0 lead.

South Africa responded in the 60th minute, as Linda Motlhalo converted a penalty to level the score.

However, in stoppage time, Nigeria’s right-back produced a stunning long-range strike to seal the win and send the Super Falcons into the final.
