The Presidency has clarified that former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, both voluntarily stepped down from their positions before President Bola Tinubu announced new appointments to replace them
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was explained that the two ministers separately submitted their resignation letters ahead of the Federal Executive Council reshuffle.
According to the statement, Wale Edun, who recently turned 70 and had reportedly been dealing with health concerns, tendered his resignation on his birthday, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve under the Tinubu administration.
He wrote in part: “It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Edun further added: “Under your leadership, Nigeria has emerged stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected. I wish you and the administration every success in the future.”
The Presidency also disclosed that he paid a farewell visit to President Tinubu at the Villa on Tuesday, where they held a private meeting before his exit from office to focus on personal matters.
Similarly, Ahmed Dangiwa also resigned, appreciating the President for allowing him serve in the Federal Executive Council.
President Tinubu, in turn, reportedly thanked both men for their contributions, noting that their roles were significant in shaping the administration’s economic and housing reforms.
