The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has been elected as the new President of the Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF)
Edun, a global economist and passionate advocate of grassroots boxing, was voted in unopposed after securing all twelve (12) votes at the federation’s election held on Saturday at the Package B Indoor Sports Hall of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

In his post-election remarks, Edun promised to introduce sweeping reforms and structural changes aimed at transforming the sport across all levels in Nigeria.
The race for the Vice Presidency, however, proved competitive as Hon. Omonlei Imadu, representing the South-West zone, defeated his North-Central counterpart, Mighty Mike, by eight votes to four in a closely fought contest.
Imadu, widely respected for his dedication to developing boxing at the grassroots level, hailed Edun’s emergence as the right step toward restoring the sport’s lost glory.
“I make bold to say it’s a new dawn for boxing in the country. The Honorable Minister is very passionate about the sport, and he has consistently demonstrated that passion through numerous grassroots initiatives nationwide. I and the other board members will work closely with Hon. Wale Edun to achieve his vision for Nigerian boxing.”
The newly elected Vice President also commended the National Sports Commission under the leadership of Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade for ensuring transparency, fairness, and integrity throughout the electoral process.
