Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has shared an update on the status of bail for social media critic VeryDarkMan, following claims by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he has been granted bail
Adeyanju, a member of VeryDarkMan’s legal team, stated on Tuesday that despite the EFCC’s announcement, they have not received any official bail documentation.
Taking to X, Adeyanju criticized the EFCC’s claim, referring to it as “social media bail.” He noted that the legal team has made multiple requests for formal bail documents, but the agency has not complied.
“Bail granted VDM, social media bail, as we are yet to receive any bail document from the commission,” he wrote. “We have made several repeated demands in this regard since yesterday that we were informed about decision to grant bail.”
VeryDarkMan was arrested last Friday over unspecified allegations. Prior to his detention, he had disclosed plans to visit a GTBank branch in Abuja to report alleged unauthorized deductions from his mother’s account.
Reports also emerged that he was allegedly manhandled during his arrest.
EFCC stated that the activist was taken into custody following multiple petitions and would be formally charged in court. The commission announced on Monday that he had been granted administrative bail.
