West Ham United has secured a loan deal with OGC Nice for the services of defender Jean-Clair Todibo, with an option to purchase him for £35m
The agreement comes after prolonged negotiations between Juventus and Nice failed to yield a mutually acceptable agreement.
Todibo is scheduled to undergo a medical examination in London on Friday, following extensive discussions with West Ham’s technical director, Tim Steidten, who successfully convinced him to join the club.
Despite ongoing interest from Juventus, their talks with Nice have been unsuccessful.
This deal marks a revision from a previous agreement between West Ham and Nice, which had stipulated a loan with an option to buy Todibo for €32 million.
However, the player had been holding out for a move to Juventus. With three years remaining on his contract with Nice, Todibo’s signing addresses West Ham’s need for a centre-back, as Kurt Zouma prepares to depart for UAE club Shabab Al Ahli.
Notably, Manchester United, who have a minority stake in Nice through INEOS, had expressed interest in Todibo, but a transfer is not feasible due to their shared ownership structure.
