Actor, Olumide Owuru has shared the reasons behind his decision to run for political office during the 2023 elections

He explained that his motivation stemmed from a desire to be part of a movement aimed at bringing about change in the country.
In February 2023, Owuru announced his candidacy for the Surulere Constituency 1 seat in the Lagos Assembly under the Labour Party (LP).
However, his name was notably absent from the electoral commission’s result list, which sparked a lot of online discussions.
Desmond Elliot, a veteran actor and Owuru’s senior colleague, ran on the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket and ultimately won the seat.
During an appearance on the Nollywood On Radio podcast with entertainment journalist Seun Olekutiyi, Olumide expressed his frustration with the state of the nation. He highlighted the decline in various industries and sectors, asserting that many aspects of life were deteriorating.
Owuru also shared his desire to raise his family in a prosperous Nigeria, stressing the importance of collective engagement in the country’s progress.
He said, “We need to be actively involved in our country’s matters. I want to live and raise my family in a Nigeria that offers opportunities and is flourishing. It’s disheartening to see the current decline, with most sectors, apart from entertainment and sports, facing difficulties. I want to be part of the change that society needs.”
