Wife and her lesbian partner held for murder of husband
A 26-year-old woman has been arrested in South Africa for the alleged involvement in the murder of her husband in October last year.
“The suspect and her female companion allegedly conspired to murder her husband in an incident, in which the victim was shot and killed in the manner that the suspects reportedly made it look like a farm attack.
“As investigations went on, a 23-year-old female suspect, Patricia Lee Smith, who was reportedly a lesbian girlfriend of the 26-year-old suspect, was then arrested on 27 October 2020 and later released on bail,” Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said in a statement on Thursday.
Limpopo police added it was also alleged that the wife attempted to poison her husband on 9 May 2020. The victim was admitted to hospital and later discharged. The two women are expected to appear in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Friday [today].
The pair are facing charges of murder, conspiracy to murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice.
SAPS provincial commissioner in Limpopo, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the arrest and applauded the investigating team.
