The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili, accusing him of behaving like a “trader and sycophant.”

Wike questioned why Odili, who served as governor for eight years, was still seeking relevance
Speaking at a Special Thanksgiving Service organized by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, at the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in Port Harcourt, Wike expressed disappointment in Odili. He described it as unfortunate for someone regarded as an elder statesman to reduce himself to such behavior.
“Must you be a trader all the time? As governor for eight years, what else are you looking for? I didn’t want to say anything, but someone called me last night and told me what was said on social media. This morning, I read in the newspapers that Sir Peter Odili claimed the current governor stopped someone from turning Rivers into a personal estate,” Wike said.
He added, “Between him and me, who has turned Rivers into a personal estate? His wife is the Chairman of a Governing Council, his daughter is a commissioner, his other daughter is a judge, and he is the general overseer. If care isn’t taken, he might even arrange a marriage for the governor.”
Wike also accused Odili of forgetting the praises he once heaped on him during his tenure as governor. “This same Odili praised me to high heavens, saying all past governors combined did not achieve as much as I did. Let us not forget, I revived him politically after former Governor Chibuike Amaechi sidelined him,” he added.
