The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he is willing to testify in the ongoing trial of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, if formally summoned by the court
Wike made the remark during his monthly media briefing on Friday, responding to questions about being named by Kanu as one of his witnesses.

The statement comes after Kanu, in a motion filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, indicated he would begin his defence on Friday, October 24, 2025, and plans to call 23 witnesses, including Wike, former Minister of Defence Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd), and former Chief of Army Staff Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd).
Wike clarified that he did not request to be included as a witness and has not received any court documents or subpoena. He stressed that appearing as a witness is a legal obligation only when officially called, and one cannot assume witness status based on media reports.
“If you see Nnamdi Kanu, ask him why he listed me. I did not go to him to say I want to be a witness; you are the one saying that. You don’t become a witness by reading a newspaper. Nobody has served me process; nobody has subpoenaed me.
“So, if I am served, if I am subpoenaed to come and give evidence, I must obey the court and appear,” Wike said.
