A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has called for emergency meetings of both the National Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees, scheduling them for Tuesday at the party’s national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
This stands in direct contrast to the weekend’s parallel convention held in Ibadan.
According to a notice signed by Samuel Anyanwu, a close ally of Wike, the Board of Trustees will meet at 11 a.m., followed by the NEC at 2 p.m., with members told their presence is mandatory as key issues will be addressed.

The Abuja meetings are seen as a direct response to the Ibadan convention led by former national chairman Umar Damagum, where Kabiru Turaki emerged as national chairman and a series of expulsions were announced, targeting Wike, Anyanwu, former Ekiti governor Ayo Fayose, and others. That gathering also dissolved PDP structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states.
But cracks quickly appeared as Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang, both present in Ibadan, publicly distanced themselves from the move to expel Wike.
Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, posted the invitation for the Abuja meetings on X on Monday. In an earlier statement on Saturday, he dismissed the Ibadan convention entirely, describing it as a gathering not to be taken seriously.
“They went to Ibadan to start dirty December in November,” he said, adding that whatever decisions came from the event were best ignored and that the group behind it was free to “say anything.”
