Ndidi, who led the Super Eagles during last month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs in Morocco, will now officially take over the captaincy at AFCON.

The midfielder, along with winger Moses Simon, are currently the most experienced members of the squad, with Simon expected to be appointed vice-captain.

Ndidi, who made his debut for the Super Eagles in August 2015, has earned 71 caps. He missed the delayed 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire due to injury.
