Wolverhampton Wanderers have dismissed head coach Vitor Pereira following a dismal run of form that left the club rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table

Pereira’s final game in charge was Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Fulham — a match the 57-year-old himself described as his team’s “worst performance” since taking over. The loss extended Wolves’ winless start to the season to 10 games, with only two points collected so far.

Despite signing a new contract in September to keep him at Molineux until 2028, Pereira’s position became untenable after Wolves endured the worst start to a league campaign in their history, including five consecutive defeats.

Wolves also suffered a 4-3 loss to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup last week, exiting at the last-16 stage.

Appointed in December 2024 after the sacking of Gary O’Neil, Pereira initially impressed by guiding Wolves from 19th place to Premier League safety with a 16th-place finish. A six-game winning streak in April appeared to signal a turnaround, but since then the club have gone 14 league matches without a victory, losing 11 of them.

Tensions between Pereira and supporters grew in recent weeks, with the coach seen arguing with fans after last weekend’s stoppage-time defeat to Burnley — a match during which chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” echoed around Molineux and resurfaced again at Craven Cottage.

Following the Burnley loss, Pereira reflected on the criticism: “Two months ago they sang my name because of what we did last season. Now, without results, they sing my name maybe to sack me. But if I were a supporter, I would still feel proud of my team because they worked and showed mentality.”

Wolves’ struggles were compounded over the summer by the departures of key players Rayan Aït-Nouri and Matheus Cunha to Manchester City and Manchester United respectively, with seven new arrivals brought in to rebuild Pereira’s squad — a project that has now been cut short.
