In a significant victory against sexual violence, the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has handed down a life sentence to 19-year-old teacher Abdullahi Abbass for the anal r4pe of his nine-year-old male pupil
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) celebrated the ruling as a crucial step forward in combating such crimes.

The judgment, delivered on October 29, 2025, by Justice M. Osho-Adebiyi, stemmed from an incident on March 19, 2025, in the Kwali Area Council.
Abbass, who served as the victim’s class teacher at a private school, allegedly lured the boy after school hours by sending another pupil to fetch him from home.
He then took the child to a nearby street and carried out the assault, according to details shared in a NAPTIP statement on X by National Press Officer Vincent Adekoye.
The victim promptly confided in his mother, prompting Abbass’s swift arrest and prosecution on two counts of rape and sexual abuse.
He was convicted under Section 2 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015, which mandates life imprisonment for such offenses.
NAPTIP Director-General Binta Adamu Bello lauded the judiciary, law enforcement, and partners for their swift action, calling it a “landmark judgment” with fitting punishment.
“This will serve as a deterrent, and his name shall feature prominently in our Sex Offenders Register,” she stated. Bello highlighted the rapid investigation and arraignment as evidence of NAPTIP’s intensified efforts against domestic violence, rape, and sexual abuse nationwide.
She also commended the Nigerian Police for their collaboration and reiterated the agency’s dedication to eradicating these crimes.
