President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Nigeria, threatening military action if the reported ”k!llings of Christians” persist
Just 24 hours after designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” Trump took to his Truth Social platform with a fiery statement, declaring:
‘If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the k!lling of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities. I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action.
If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”
The post came a day after Trump accused Nigeria of allowing what he called an “existential threat” to Christianity. He claimed thousands of Christians have been massacred by radical Islamist groups and criticized the Nigerian government for alleged inaction.
The Nigerian government, however, swiftly rejected Trump’s claims. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through his spokesperson, said the statement was “unfounded and misleading,” stressing that Nigeria remains a secular nation that upholds religious freedom and tolerance. Tinubu maintained that conflicts in the country are driven by complex factors such as terrorism, banditry, and communal clashes, not by a deliberate religious agenda.
Trump’s remarks have sparked global reactions, with analysts warning that his threat of military intervention could strain diplomatic relations between Washington and Abuja. Some observers also pointed out that while religious violence has occurred in Nigeria, it often intersects with ethnic, political, and economic tensions rather than being purely faith-based.
