A young woman in Gubio local government area of Borno State has reportedly taken her own life, sparking outrage across the community over allegations that she was forced into marriage by her father
Details circulating on social media suggest that the woman was coerced into marrying one of her father’s friends, a development that allegedly pushed her to despair.

The tragic incident has brought renewed attention to the challenges faced by young women in the region, particularly regarding forced marriages.
While the full circumstances surrounding the case are still being verified, the Borno State Police Command has launched a discreet investigation. Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, is determined to uncover the truth and called on anyone with credible information to assist.
“The Command is committed to establishing the true facts of this matter,” Daso said. He also warned the public against sharing unverified information that could cause panic or misrepresent the situation.
Child protection advocate Bukar Fantami Gubio has urged human rights organisations and authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice for the victim. He stressed the need to protect young women from coercion, emphasizing that forced marriages are a serious violation of human rights.
The alleged s#icide has ignited widespread concern in Borno State, highlighting the urgent need for measures to safeguard the rights, freedom, and dignity of vulnerable young women.
