X has announced a major overhaul of the way creators earn money on the platform, bringing its Revenue Sharing programme to an end and introducing a new system focused on rewarding original content
The social media company announced the change on Friday through its X Creators account, unveiling the new Original Content Rewards Programme.

Under the new system, X said creators will be rewarded for producing original ideas, expert insights, reporting, creative work, analysis and meaningful contributions to discussions on the platform.
“Today, we’re introducing the Original Content Rewards Program, a new way to reward creators who bring original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity, and commentary to X,” the company said.
As part of the transition, X has immediately closed new registrations for its existing Revenue Sharing programme. Creators already enrolled will, however, continue earning through the current system until September 7, 2026.
The company said existing participants will receive three final payments. The payouts are scheduled for August 14 and August 28, with a final settlement expected around September 11 for earnings accumulated up to September 7.
Beginning September 8, creators who meet the requirements will be able to apply for the new Original Content Rewards Programme.
The first payment under the new system is scheduled for August 28, while creators transitioning from the old programme are expected to receive their first new-system payout on September 25.
X said earnings under the new programme will be determined by qualified impressions generated by a creator’s original posts, with payments made on a two-week cycle.
The platform defines qualified impressions as unique views from Premium users on the Home Timeline where at least half of the post is visible. Views generated repeatedly by the same account, paid or promoted traffic, artificially generated engagement and fraudulent impressions will not be included.
Creators seeking to participate must be at least 18 years old, live in a country where the programme is available, maintain an account in good standing and have an active X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription.
They must also have a minimum of 500 verified followers and record at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the preceding 90 days.
Regularly posting original material will also be necessary to maintain eligibility.
X said acceptable content could include original threads, videos, memes, graphics, illustrations, reporting, commentary, analysis and creative responses that contribute meaningful value to conversations on the platform.
However, simply reposting someone else’s work will not qualify. The company also said minor alterations such as cropping, adding filters, borders, watermarks or basic text overlays would not transform copied material into eligible original content.
Copied or automated material, misinformation and content published without the required rights or permissions will likewise be excluded.
X warned that creators who breach the programme’s rules could have their access to the rewards system suspended temporarily or terminated permanently.
