The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has ordered a ban on male-female interactions, night gatherings and all public events in the state, citing security concerns and the need to uphold Islamic moral values
In a statement on Thursday, the Executive Chairman of the commission, Dr Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, said the directive takes immediate effect.
Abubakar described inappropriate male-female interactions, reckless driving and night gatherings as “activities inconsistent with Islamic moral teachings and contrary to the laws guiding Yobe State.”
“In continuation of its mandate to enforce moral conduct under Shari’a law, the Yobe State Hisbah Commission hereby suspends all Sallah-related events and public gatherings that contradict Islamic teachings,” the statement read.
Abubakar added that owners and operators of event centres must strictly comply with the directive or face sanctions.
“The commission calls on community leaders, parents, youth groups, and other stakeholders to support the directive and ensure compliance across their communities,” he said.
He further stated, “All public gatherings that contradict the moral teachings of Islam and the laws guiding Yobe State and Hisbah Commission are hereby strictly prohibited.”
