Peggy Ovire has formally responded to the N100m lawsuit filed against her by actor Taye Arimoro, denying every accusation and insisting that he is attempting to twist the facts of what happened on set
In a detailed letter issued through her lawyers, Ovire described Arimoro’s claims of as.sault, unlawful detention, ha.rassment and human-rights violations as “misleading, selective, and materially false.”
According to the letter, Arimoro reportedly slapped, punched, and knocked down the production manager, Luke Obayi, after he approached him to complete the acting role he had already been fully paid for. He was also accused of head-butting Ovire’s driver, Joshua Madu, leaving him with visible injuries.
The legal team stated that several neighbours witnessed the incident and gave written statements to the police confirming Arimoro’s aggressive behaviour.
Ovire’s lawyers also rejected the claim that Arimoro was held against his will. They said any attempt to stop him from leaving was to prevent him from escaping the scene after allegedly assaulting crew members, especially as the production manager lay unconscious on the floor.
They added that Ovire never assaulted Arimoro, noting that the only physical contact she had with him was a “light push” to stop him from deflating her car tyres during his attempt to flee.
The letter further dismissed Arimoro’s Instagram live broadcast as a tactic meant to manipulate public opinion, accuse Ovire falsely, and cover up his behaviour. The lawyers argued that the CCTV clip Arimoro released was selectively edited and does not show the full sequence of events.
They hinted that Ovire is considering a defamation counter-suit for the reputational damage caused.
