The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, saying he will “keep contesting for President on social media” rather than in Nigeria
Wike made the comment on Thursday during the inauguration of newly constructed roads in the Mabushi District of Abuja, reacting to Obi’s recent criticism of the poor condition of public schools in the FCT.

Obi had visited LEA Primary School in Kapwa on Wednesday, describing the situation there as a “national disgrace” and a reflection of Nigeria’s weak commitment to education. He decried the absence of basic facilities such as chairs and toilets, blaming the condition on failed leadership.
In response, Wike accused Obi of turning every issue into a political opportunity and seeking public sympathy through social media theatrics. He insisted that his administration was actively addressing the city’s infrastructural challenges and that Obi lacked the moral right to lecture anyone about governance.
“I hear one of the social media presidential candidates went to one of the local schools and said the government has abandoned public education. His name is Peter Obi. It’s not everything you must play politics with,” Wike said.
The FCT minister went further to question Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, alleging that he ignored major infrastructure needs during his eight-year tenure.
“Peter Obi, you were governor for eight years. If you had finished all the jobs in Anambra, there wouldn’t be any need for development today. Why did you even have problems with your successor?” Wike asked.
He argued that while the FCT administration had achieved notable progress in two years, Obi’s eight years in Anambra left little to show for his leadership.
“You will continue to contest as President on social media, but not as President of Nigeria,” Wike declared. “You couldn’t manage a party, yet you want to manage a country of over 200 million people. It’s not available for people like you.”
