The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of Chima Hyginus Nkwocha, popularly known as “Young Billionaire,” on charges of impersonation and money laundering
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, sentenced Nkwocha to two years in prison with an option of a ₦2,000,000 fine.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Nkwocha was arrested in August 2024 for impersonating multiple individuals—Frank Nils, Frank Cobert, Frank Brown, and Chiress Riffatt—via Gmail and Google Voice. He defrauded an American, Linda Wheeler, of $345,000, receiving the naira equivalent through the Ginux Global Nigeria Ltd Zenith Bank account.
Recovered items included a Mercedes Benz ML 350, gold jewelry, $2,200 cash, ₦90,280,934.00 in the Ginux Global account, and properties in Lagos, Abuja, and Lekki, along with bank drafts and electronic devices.
One of the charges stated:
“That you, Chima Hyginus Nkwocha (AKA Frank Nils, Frank Cobert, Frank Brown, and Chiress Riffatt), sometime in 2022 in Abuja, fraudulently impersonated multiple individuals using Gmail and Google Voice, defrauding Linda Wheeler of $345,000, with the naira equivalent received through Ginux Global Nigeria Ltd’s Zenith Bank account. This constitutes an offence under Section 22(2) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.”
Nkwocha pleaded guilty to all charges. Prosecution counsel Lanre Adeola Olariwaju reviewed the case and urged the court to convict him. The court also ordered the forfeiture of Nkwocha’s assets, deemed proceeds of crime, to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Nkwocha’s conviction follows his arrest by the EFCC Advanced Fee Fraud Section in August 2024 in Abuja’s Lugbe area.
