A heartbreaking story has emerged involving Nigerian content creator known as Aunty Abiba, who broke down in tears while recounting how she lost her brother just 48 hours after her family brought him home from the hospital because they could no longer afford his medical treatment.
In an emotional account, Aunty Abiba described the painful lengths her family went to in a desperate attempt to save his life, revealing that they borrowed money, exhausted their life savings and plunged themselves into debt to cover his medical expenses.
Despite their sacrifices, the family eventually ran out of money and could no longer afford to keep him in the hospital.
According to her account, her brother died just two days after they brought him home, leaving the family devastated by a loss she believes could have been made even more painful by their financial struggles.
She said:
“We borrowed, spent our life savings and went into debt trying to save him. We did everything we could, but the moment we went broke, we couldn’t afford to keep him in the hospital”.
Reflecting on the tragedy, the content creator expressed deep concern about the growing burden of healthcare costs in Nigeria, arguing that access to life-saving treatment should not depend on a person’s financial status.
“I’ve come to realize that Nigeria is becoming a place where your chance of survival depends on how much money you have. If you are poor, even your right to fight for your life becomes a privilege,” she added.
The tragedy has left a haunting question: Should a family’s financial situation determine how long a loved one gets the chance to fight for their life?
