The Zazzau Emirate Council in Kaduna State has suspended a traditional title holder in the emirate, Alhaji Mustapha Adamu, for allegedly taking the law into his own hands by beating a suspected homos3xual.
The information and communication officer of the Zazzau Emirate Council, Abdullahi Aliyu, in a statement on Tuesday, disclosed that Adamu flogged the accused in the Zaria Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
He said the suspension of Adamu, who holds the title of Marafan Yamman Zazzau, was a result of him taking laws into his hands by flogging one Yusuf Yahaya (SABO) of Unguwan Magajiya Zaria City with 60 strokes of the cane.
According to Aliyu, the suspension was indefinite and with immediate effect.
The statement warned that Zazzau Emirate would not condone any act that violated laws and orders from any traditional title holder in the community.
It also advised traditional title holders to always refer cases before them to the constituted authorities for proper adjudication rather than taking the laws into their own hands.
