As political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to take shape, Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday stepped up engagements with prominent opposition leaders, signaling growing efforts to build a coalition against Bola Tinubu
During the day, Atiku held separate meetings with key figures, including David Mark, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), whom he visited at his Abuja residence.

He also met with Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, who recently dumped the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the ADC after months of speculation about his political future.
Kwankwaso’s move to the ADC is being viewed as a significant boost for the opposition bloc gradually forming around the party as it positions itself ahead of 2027.
Sharing details of the visits on his verified X account, Atiku described his meeting with Mark as an opportunity to exchange ideas on strengthening the ADC and rebuilding public trust in Nigeria’s democratic system.
“This afternoon, I visited the National Chairman of our great party, ADC, Senator David Mark at his residence in Abuja. It was a courtesy call that provided an opportunity to share ideas on how to further strengthen the ADC and restore confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.”, he wrote.
In a separate post, he highlighted his discussion with Kwankwaso, noting that both leaders focused on strategies to drive good governance and national recovery through the ADC platform.
“I paid a courtesy visit to the residence of my brother and partner, His Excellency Rabiu Kwankwaso, this afternoon. We had quality discussions in the progress of our party, the ADC and how we must continue to work to ensure good governance and recovery are achieved in good time for the people.”, he added.
The high-level consultations come amid renewed moves by opposition stakeholders to forge a strong alliance capable of challenging the current administration in the next presidential election.
