1) ONLY DRINK PURE WATER (not the N5 pure water o)
Drinking at least two litres of water a day is essential for flushing toxins, but good quality water can really make a difference to our skin. Twenty years ago, I had a special ‘reverse osmosis’ filter installed at home. It’s a purification system which eliminates any impurities in tap water. It may sound extreme, but I swear that drinking chemical-free water has kept my skin youthful and vibrant.
1) ANTI-AGE WITH TURMERIC
One of the most youth-enhancing foods to incorporate into your diet is turmeric. I whizz it into juices and take its main plant chemical, curcumin, as a supplement. Curcumin has potent anti-inflammatory effects. As we age, our inflammatory response can become overactive – known as inflammaging – and can cause bad skin. Essentially, turmeric is a natural youth elixir! Continue….
3) TAKE A DEEP BREATH
It’s well-known that practising deep breathing can help slow the ageing process by relaxing our bodies, but incorporating this with yoga has an array of benefits. I’ve been practising vinyasa yoga – where movement is synchronised with breathing – for seven years, and I’ve never been more toned or happier with my complexion. It may not sound pretty, but sweating is great for detoxing skin.
4) ONLY WASH ONCE
I’ve always had a strict skincare routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising once a day, but – unlike most people – I don’t wash my face twice a day. This can strip our skin of its oils, some of which we naturally lose as we age. I always make sure to use make-up remover before bed to ensure my face is clean, but I only splash water on my face in the morning.
5) GET YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP
A good night’s sleep is essential for staying young – too little sleep makes the body produce more cortisol, which breaks down collagen, leading to wrinkles. After a busy day, I find that placing something soothing on my eyes helps me drift off. I love my ‘yoga pillow’ (a small silk pocket filled with flax seeds), but you can also try placing damp cotton wool pads on each eye. The weight makes your eyes feel ‘heavier’, encouraging sleepiness.
