Seun Kuti has criticized Yoruba monarchs, claiming that most of them don’t genuinely believe in the Yoruba gods they represent

In a series of Instagram posts, Kuti expressed his disapproval, stating that these kings sit on thrones symbolizing Yoruba heritage while mocking its true meaning.
He also lamented the disparity between the monarchs’ displays of grandeur and the poverty and ignorance faced by their people.
Kuti emphasized that being Yoruba is more than just celebrating festivals.
He further asserted that kings who appear benevolent but rule dictatorially are among the greatest culprits.
He wrote: “90 percent of Yoruba kings don’t believe in Yoruba gods yet they sit on Yoruba thrones and make a mockery of what it means to be Yoruba.
Fanfare in the midst of misery.
Joy in the face of poverty And glamor in the presence of ignorance.
Being Yoruba is not a festival!”
“There is no bigger criminal than the benevolent king/dictator.”
His comments follow the recent Ojude Oba festival.
